#32 - HEDD AP ALUNOG
Bartrum cites a single pedigree for
this man of Llanfair Talhaearn, found in 3 sources:
"Hedd molunoc ap Greddyf ap Tymyr ap Llawr ap Llawfrodedd farfawc ap Alan ap Alser ap Tudwal Gloff ap Rodri Mawr"
In his notes, he suggests Hedd was
born c. 1070 and the pedigree is "chronologically" possible. About 11 years later, Bartrum, in his "Welsh Genealogies
AD300-1400", charted Hedd as:
Hedd
(1070) ap Alunog (1030) ap Greddf (1000) ap Tymer (970) ap Llawr (930) ap Llawfrodedd farfog (900) ap Aelan (900) ap Alser
(870) ap Tudwal Gloff (830) ap Rhodri Mawr (830)
COMMENTS:
Our work
on this family dates Hedd c. 1050 or 6 generations after Tudwal Gloff of c. 865. Just 3 years after Bartrum published
this pedigree, he published his "Early Welsh Genealogical Tracts" in which he cites 7 entirely different sources which begin
the pedigree as "Hedd ap Alunog", which would make Hedd occur 8th after Tudwal Gloff.
In our
paper "Hedd ap Alunog of Llanfair Talhaearn" [1], we suggest Greddyf was merely nicknamed Tymyr (meaning "with a temper")
and that Llawr was the same man called Llawfrodedd farfog (These are adjectives meaning "melancholy" and "bearded" used to
describe Llawr); We believe the correct pedigree should read:
"Hedd (1050) ap Alunog (1020) ap Greddf
Tymer (990) ap Llawr (960) ap Aelan (930) ap Alser (895) ap Tudwal Gloff (865) ap Rhodri Mawr (820)"
